ART NEWS: Art Happenings

Posted on October 28, 2015 by Lauren W.

Freeway Editions is doing another Art News recap from the past week or so. Lots of cool things happening all over, our artists have been busy this year! Here are our top three picks from the past week.

1. JonOne is collaborating with Lacoste! The artist will have a collection of signature shirts, all brandishing his distinctive style. Check out the full video to learn more. VIDEO HERE.

"This short film describes JONONE’s visceral need to create and his unwavering determination to paint for over 30 years, repeatedly writing his name, determined to leave a mark in the artistic landscape.

Tenacity is an attribute shared by both René LACOSTE and JONONE. The tennis champion’s nickname 'Crocodile' was given to him for never giving up on the court.

This year, as a blank canvas Lacoste offered the artist an opportunity to splatter his redundant yet abstract signature style on the iconic polo shirt, resulting in a 6 pieces capsule collection."

2. Bumblebeelovesyou was deemed LA Weekly's Reader's Choice, Best Street Artist 2015! A big congrats to Bumblebeelovesyou! Check it out here.

3. L'Atlas has teamed up with Perrier to do another edition of  Street Art by Perrier! The artist is in NYC currently doing several live painting performances. Check out Perrier's blog to learn more about the project.

ART NEWS: "Outsidein" a Mural Exihibition at Art Center

This past week world renowned street artists, including some of Freeway Editions' very own, have been working on a series of mural projects at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. These artists have come together to create a community conversation around the accessibility and social impact of street art.

Photo care of Art Center Blog.

From the press release:

“Street art has exploded as an anti-authoritarian form of art making and an important global movement happening in the visual arts today,” said curator and author G. James Daichendt in a recent TEDx speech,“The Streets As Canvas.” “Even if you’ve never stepped foot into a museum or gallery, you’ve been impacted by street art since it lives in the corners of our communities.”

In recognition of this phenomenon, ArtCenter College of Design has organized OUTSIDEIN:The Ascendance of Street Art in Visual Culture, an expansive indoor and outdoor exhibition opening October 9, 2015, and continuing through January 10, 2016, at multiple venues in Pasadena. Initiated by ArtCenter’s Illustration Department Chair Ann Field, the exhibition’s curatorial team also includes Daichendt and Alyce de Roulet Williamson Gallery Director Stephen Nowlin.

Featured in the show are artists Olivia Bevilacqua, David Flores, CHASE, Robbie Conal, Cryptik, Jeanne Detallante, Shepard Fairey, James Jean, Geoff McFetridge, RISK, Kenny Scharf and Jeff Soto, who is an ArtCenter alumnus."

Locations of Murals:

OUTSIDEIN murals are being installed in four locations at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena; the Alyce de Roulet Williamson Gallery, 1700 Lida Street (91103); the Hutto-Patterson Exhibition Hall, 870 South Raymond Avenue (91105); as well as the north wall and a rooftop elevator cube of the Wind Tunnel, 950 South Raymond Avenue (91105).

Make sure to check out this rad exhibition. We certainly will be making a trip! To learn more check out Art Center's blog

ART NEWS: Welcoming Fall

Posted on September 25, 2015 by Lauren W.

We have been talking about the seasonal change which brings new exciting stuff in the artworld. BUT as of this week, Fall is officially here! Although the weather does not reflect the season change here in Los Angeles, I am sure the crispness is coming in elsewhere. With that comes a whole slew of new art shows, events, and fairs!

In Los Angeles Anthony Lister has a new show that's been open for a few weeks now at New Image. Make sure to check this one out! Such rad new stuff and some wall murals have been done around town. Check out these two links to find out about the show and wall pieces.

In other LA news, The Broad officially opened last weekend. If you haven't reserved your free ticket yet then don't even bother until mid-October. Everything is booked solid! The private contemporary collection seems to have its pros and cons but we are still excited to see what the new space has to offer. For more info read this recent NY Times article

Lastly, Speedy Graphito has completed his giant mural in Essonne! Seriously a massive undertaking for the artist but nothing is too big or too bold for Speedy! Check out this article for details about the project.

We have some new HPMs on the website so make sure to check out our previous blog posts to learn more!
