"Fukushima Tales" by Fidia Falaschetti

In tandem with Fidia Falaschetti's show opening Freeway Editions is highlighting some of his hand-painted screen prints from the Fukushima Tales series and we're talking a bit more about the artist and his background.

Construction of Destruction

Alexandre Farto aka Vhils was born in Portugal in 1987. He was raised in Portugal, during a period that was deeply affected by the revolution. As a youth he witnessed the destruction and results of violence on the walls of the city and recognized how that affected an environment.

One of Vhils most popular forms of media is his relief portrait. He creates portraits, which are chiseled into plaster and brick walls globally. Urban Exposure

This week FreeWay Editions is sharing new hand-painted screen prints from contemporary urban painter Charlie Anderson.  Anderson is originally from Edinburgh Scotland and after graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2009 he has developed a thriving career around his distinctive style of collage inspired pop art paintings. He employs imagery from magazines, flyers, advertising and political campaigns to create collage styled paintings that make commentary on our throw away society. More From Shepard Fairey

Frank Shepard Fairey is an American contemporary street artist, graphic designer activist and illustrator who emerged from the skateboarding scene. He first became known for his "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" (…OBEY…) sticker campaign, in which he appropriated images from the comedic supermarket tabloid Weekly World News. We all know Shepard Fairey primarily for his 2008 U.S. presidential election Barack Obama "Hope" poster. This week FreeWay Editions would like to share some of his other works and highlight the artist's wide range of talents!

Smash137, "Between the Lines"

Smash137 is and urban contemporary artist originally from Basel, Switzerland. His work is described as abstractions of urban calligraphy. “Sometimes in a simple gray with black outlines, other times enriched with vibrant and bubbly colors, or creating a three dimensionality through skillful shading.” Smash137 has a variety of styles and his artwork is always evolving.
