ART NEWS: The Venice Art Crawl

This week we are discussing some local art news! Culver City's neighbor Venice Beach is having it's quarterly Art Crawl on March 19th. The Venice Beach neighborhood of Abbot Kinney is home to this month's crawl where art galleries, vendors, restaurants and locals will all participate in a night of arts and culture.

FEATURED ARTIST: Jef Aerosol

 

Jean-François Perroy, better known as Jef Aérosol, was born in Nantes, France on January 15th 1957. He's a French urban stencil artist as well as a pioneer in the street art movement in the 1980s.  Jef Aérosol has been living and working in Lille, France since 1984 but his works are exhibited worldwide.

The art fair season has slowed down here on the west coast but this week the frenzy starts in NYC. Despite the freezing temperatures and feet of snow, everyone is headed east for a variety of art showcases in New York City. FEATURED ARTIST: Shark Toof

This week's feature artist is local LA street artist, Shark Toof. Shark Toof has been covering the walls of LA for years now and has created a multifaceted visual language that uses his iconic, often wheat pasted, shark image to communicate ideas of culture and social dynamics. Most recently the artist worked on a large wall at Jose de Diego Middle School in Miami during Art Week. Shark Toof combines the conventional messages of street art culture with a broader message of social awareness.
