ART NEWS: Coney Island Art Walls

Freeway Editions has been following closely as Jeffery Deitch slowly unveils his latest street art project in NYC. The former MOCA director has found himself back in New York and supporting the street art scene once more. Coney Island Art Walls is a collaborative effort to bring together a large number of street artists from all over the world to paint walls throughout the amusement park community. This ongoing summer event does not have a proposed end date but is said to continue through September. From the Art Beat blog (NY Times)

"...in cooperation with the real-estate developer Joseph J. Sitt, founder and chief executive of Thor Equities, which has become a major landowner in the Coney Island amusement-park area in recent years. “Coney Art Walls” will feature work by more than a dozen graffiti and street artists, many of them old-school and some new, including Lady Pink, Daze, Lee Quiñones, Swoon, Mister Cartoon, JR, Sheryo and Icy Signs, the storefront art project run by the artist Stephen Powers."

We have already posted a few pieces from the May-June installments. Artists such as Miss Van, Shepard Fairey, and Kenny Scharf have already made their mark with some incredible walls. We will periodically check back in with updates and images on the project so stay tuned! Send us your images!
